Shedding Light on Hunger Annual Golf Tournament

On July 27, 2024, we successfully hosted our 7th annual Shedding Light on Hunger golf tournament and raised over $9,000.

This event helps us support local communities facing food insecurity. We want to thank our vendors, local businesses, tournament participants, and volunteers for making the event successful.

Following the tournament, WWVREMC employees began assembling lunch bags filled with food to distribute to students at the Live in Liberty Back to School Party on July 31st. We appreciate all who sponsored lunch bags this year, and David Block won the $100 Amazon gift card in our lunch bag sponsor drawing! Congratulations!

Creating the Shedding Light on Hunger program aligns with one of our cooperative principles — Concern for Community. It began in 2012 as a food collection and distribution program to help local food banks keep their shelves filled. The hidden account number is 940500. Funding for the program comes entirely from cooperative employees, donations from partners, and money raised from the annual charity golf tournament.
