Whitewater Valley REMC’s electric energy rates for members will be established by a resolution of the Board of Directors and in accordance with the law. The cooperative’s rate schedules follow an approach where prices reflect the differences in cost for generating or securing power during different times of the year – higher costs when demand is high, lower costs when demand is low.
Power does not cost the same throughout the year – and using it daily and hourly as if the cost was always the same is costly for everyone. When demand peaks, suppliers like Hoosier Energy have to fire up more expensive peak power units or buy power on the open market. It doesn’t cost the same, and it can’t be priced the same then, either.
By pricing power based upon its real cost during seasons of the year, we have a real personal motivation to be more efficient and not just expect someone else to pick up the bill. We will all need to pay more attention to when we use electricity; while that is a change and may be difficult it will pay off in the end. Whitewater Valley REMC’s Seasonal Rates gives an honest picture of the electricity costs during the year and offers members the ability to offset or even save on your electricity by being more efficient during the days and hours it matters most.
